I´m going to tell you the story of "My Bali Bed"
I have "The handy man always at home" syndrome, and it seems my house is just never quite finished. But I think, I´ll consider this one corner, as finally done!

When my children were little, I had a brick wall sorrounding the pool and when they grew up a little, I started demolishing the wall, by parts, and left this space, which I never really liked. At first I put some hammocks, then a children´s toy house, which I took out after they tore it appart shooting the soccer ball, etc.. (sorry for the picture, but it´s the only one I found)

And, throuhgout all these changes, my friend Eli always said: "you must put a bali bed here!" But I had in my head a Bali Bed with hay ceiling, like the one in the picture, and I was affraid it blocked the views. But I tried the one in the picture and then I could no longer live without one...

And one day, surfing through the blogs I love, I found this bed structure, which I thought was very "light" and could work well for my unfinished space.

So I created my own design. The idea was that even though the base is thick and very strong looking (which I wanted because I really like the built in mattress), the rest of the structure is very shallow, and the flat ceiling doesn´t block the view at all.
I made the structure in galvanized iron, and sorrounded it with 20 cm wide hollow bricks covered with porcelanic tiles, leaving a hole in the inside with the same width as the matress, made of high density foam, upholstered in nautical leather, which is waterproof. The ceiling is made of marin plywood tinted in black, and the curtains are made of sailcloth specially treated for using in the exterior so water slips and does not soak in the cloth.

So, do you like it?
Eli, thanks for the idea.
And here I leave you with some more pictures that really inspired me.

Tu cuadro

As I promised in my last post, I´ll give you an idea of how to have your own big canvas. You´ll need a few wooden strips to make the frame, a piece of cloth with a pattern that you like, and a upholstery stapler.
If the piece of cloth to work with has a drawing to center the attention in, you should strech the cloth as much as you can and measure the size your canvas should be to have the picture centered, and then rest 5 cm in each side to go arround the frame with the cloth and stich the staple in the back.
If the pattern does not have to be centered, then make the frame the size you want, staple in the back and cut the remainings of the cloth.
In my case, I chose a Chillida sarong, that I bought in my last visti to Chillida Leku (right before it closed), and now I have a Chillida piece of art!
I´m sure you´ll find your own wonderful canvas with many different prints: abstract, oriental, minimalistic......
Enjoy and make sure you write and send me pictures of your artwork.

Cuadros

www.fincalorearte.com     Óleos de Íñigo Raguan

Proyecto Tatiana Doria.

Pictures and Paintings are to Decoration like topings to a cake. They have to hung at the end, when everything is in its place. They complete the project. They are the "perfect finale", but placing and selecting them is not an easy task.
Paintings should be placed at the height of the eyes of the observer. We shouldn´t raise our head to watch them. It they are placed too high, they would seem to be "floating" in the wall, and miss all the sense of proportion and aesthetics.
There is no need to leave the same space of wall above and below the painting, most of the times is always better to place them closer to the furniture and further from the ceiling.

Here, we have an example of how the picture is part of a whole. If placed higher "to cover the wall", we would see  the furniture on one hand, and the painting on the other , rather than the whole.

So, now we know that when pictures are small and are to be placed alone, they should be part of the whole and close to the furniture, but we can also hang several pictures togher, and, in this case, cover the wall.

My suggestion for today is using kitchen cabines in different places other than the kitchen.
The kitchen cabinets are available,  in different sizes from 30 to 100 cm (wide), 70 or 90 cm (height), and 58 or 33cm (depth).
There is a wide range or colours or patterns for doors to cover them.

Kitchen doors are wooden boards cut to the size needed with an aluminum or PVC edge banding.

With this basic information you can arrange your own piece of furniture!
I mostly use them for bathrooms.

Proyecto Tatiana Doria.

These are other options to try....
