¿Antiguo? ¡Qué va! Ahora mejor que nunca

Hace unos días, en una conversación de:
A few days ago, this conversation took place:

-Ay Carlitos es igualito que Carlos                     -Carlitos looks just like Carlos
-Pues sí pero algo mío tendrá..                          - He sure does, but he must also look a bit like me
-Ay pues no sé qué decirte......                          - Mmmm I don´t think so!
-Cómo que no!!! Espera y verás......                  - What!? Wait a minute......

Y saco la artillería de álbumes que había en casa de mi madre para encontrar parecidos......
So I rush to find the old photo albums that used to be at my mom´s to find the resemblance with MY family

Y mientras todo el mundo analizaba a los personajes, yo no podía evitar ver esas lámparas PANTON, colgadas A PARES  en una esquina del salón!!!! Y pensaba: "¿dónde están esas lámparas que yo nunca he llegado a ver en mi edad adulta, y ahora mataría por ellas?!!!!!!
And while everyone was morphologically analyzing the people, I couldn´t help staring at those PANTON lamps, hanging BY PAIRS, in a corner of the room! And thought: "Where in the world are those lamps, which I haven´t seen in my adult life and would now kill to have?!

Y en mi cuarto también!!!!!! Pero dónde están ahora, con lo bien que quedarían en mi salóooooon!
Not only did they have them in the living room!! Here´s another one in my bedroom!

Así que cuando todo el mundo terminó con los parecidos yo me dediqué a mirar la decoración. Y parece mentira que hayan pasado 40 años desde que estas cosas estuvieran de moda, porque a mi no me importaría nada tenerlas ahora.
So when everyone finished with the resemblances, I started to pay attention to all the decoration. And really, it´s hard to tell that 40 years have just gone by. I would not mind having any of this stuff right now!

¿qué os parece este sofá de piel con brazo extra ancho? ¿no podría estar en cualquier tienda hoy?
How about this white leather sofa with such a thick armrest? Couldn´t it be at any store today?

¿y este sofá super grande de terciopelo azul?
And this huge blue velvet one?

La mesa de centro no me la quedo, gracias.

No os digo nada del chester ¡también AZUL!
Not to say the also blue chester!

Y aquí una pieza de chinoiserie que seguro que le encontraría un hueco en algún lado y la mesa de espejo con jardinera, ¿qué me dices?
And a lovely chinoiserie piece which I would happily fit anywhere at home. And what do you think of the mirror coffee table?

Bueno y ya que estamos..... me pido también el bolso que se ha colado en primer plano de esta foto.
And since we are on a roll..... I also want the crocodile bag hovering in the foreground of this picture.

Lila, una opción de tendencia

Los tonos pastel son tendencia esta temporada, también en decoración, y hoy os mostraré algunos ejemplos del uso del color lila que entraría dentro de los denominados "pastel" pero que utilizado de forma "sutil" no es ni empalagoso ni cansino.

El lila es un violeta suave, y el violeta se refiere al conjunto de azules rojizos o púrpuras azulados. Se forma al juntar el cian (azul) y el magenta (rosa), junto con el amarillo.

Pastel colors are here to stay in decoration too. I´d like to show you some examples of the use of lilac to enhance a room. Better results are obtained when used with moderation otherwise it´ll tire us out.
Lilac is a light shade of purple belonging to the bluish reds or the reddish blues and it´s the result of mixing cyan (blue) and magenta (pink), with a touch of yellow. 

Y me diréis, ¿sutil? que subjetivo es eso, pero no, ahora veréis.....

Para mí, esto NO es un buen uso del lila 

And you´d say, what´s a moderate use?? Well you´ll see.... To me, this is NOT A GOOD USE of lilac

Sin embargo, ahora veréis como en estos ejemplos siguientes, el lila funciona muy bien. En algunos casos se funde y crea una atmósfera suave, y en otros destaca creando un ambiente más dramático. 


Although, the examples below show a great way to use lilac for not making "heavy spaces". In some cases, it almost melts with the rest of the palette creating a very soft atmosphere, and in the others it stands out creating more of a dramatic atmosphere.

El lila tiene ya cierta sombra de gris, así que el GRIS y el PLATA lo acompañan bien aparte de neutralizar su cualidad femenina.
Lilac has shades of grey itself, therefore GREY and SILVER blend well and neutralize its femenine quality.


La combinación del lila con el CREMA, crea ambientes delicados y frescos. Hace que las habitaciones parezcan más amplias. Agregando a esta combinación tonalidades de CAQUI Y BEIG, conseguimos más profundidad y riqueza. 
When combining lilac with CREAM, we get delicate and fresh rooms as a result. Spaces seem to be bigger. If we add KHAKI and BEIG to the previous mix, we will achive rooms with more depth and richness. 


El INDIGO, una tonalidad más oscura del violeta, con el lila, tonalidad suave, coseguiríamos ambientes monocromáticos ¡pero sobrecogedoramente violetas!! que para mi gusto sólo funcionan en ciertas estancias y agregando tonalidades de sus complementarios (opuestos en la círculo cromático) como amarillo o verde para crear espacios eclécticos y vibrantes.
INDIGO, the darkest shade of violet, together with lilac, the softest one, will create monochromatic spaces, but overwhelmingly purple!!! To me, this option will only work for certain rooms and are better off adding its complementary colors, like yellow or green to obtain vibrant and eclectic atmospheres. 


El MARRÓN, consigue neutralizar y "masculinizar" el lila. En un ambiente con predominio de tonos marrones, los toques de lila y crema dan frescura y sofisticación. 
BROWN, neutralizes and makes lilac more masculine. When brown shades are predominant, lilac and creams give the touch of  freshness and sophistication.


En algunas ocasiones, el lila como color protagonista funciona muy bien dejando una paleta neutra alrededor y aquí van unos ejemplos. 
Sometimes, using lilac as a big statement in rooms also works well if leaving the rest of the space with a neutral palette.

Cama Balinesa, toca limpiarla

Hace ya bastante tiempo que publiqué aquí la historia de mi cama balinesa. Os diré que es la entrada que más visitas tiene de mi blog con muchísima diferencia de las demás. Recibo correos preguntándome detalles constructivos, medidas y materiales utilizados para su construcción. Algún día publicaré las fotos de otras camas balinesas inspiradas en esta misma, de personas que a través del blog me han pedido asesoramiento.

Here you can read the story about my Bali Bed. That one post is the most visited of all posts at all times!. I still get mails asking for more information about contruction details, materials used, measurements, etc. Maybe some day I´ll show all the Bali Beds made using this one as inspiration source, from people I  helped out through this blog.


En fin, que después del interés que parece que suscita, he aprovechado un zafarrancho en familia para hacer su limpieza anual y que veáis los detalles de la base y confirméis que el cuero náutico y las cortinas de loneta acrílica dan un resultado estupendo usadas a la intemperie.

So, given the interest shown, I´ll post about it again. This time taking advantage of a family gathering to pursue the annual bali bed cleaning! This time you can see the base and how the nautical leatherette and the acrylic fabric for the drapes are perfect for outdoor use. 

No pudimos elegir mejor día que el más caluroso del año para los menesteres de limpieza, se puede ver la capa de calima....
Retiramos el colchón de la base para limpiarlo, sobretodo los laterales y la parte de abajo que quedan embutidos dentro de la estructura y se llenan de suciedad (había hasta una lagartija aplastadilla....), pero con un manguerazo y trapo húmedo sale perfectamente.

We couldn´t have chosen a better day than the warmest day of the year to do this! You can see the dusty cloud in the pictures.
We removed the mattress to wash it throughly. The sides and the bottom are dirtier than the rest because are inserted in the base, but with a hose and a damp cloth the mattress is back in shape!

Luego limpiamos bien la estructura. Aquí podéis apreciar el interior de la estructura. Se puede dejar sin alicatar pero para la limpieza es más fácil que la superficie sea lisa. Como veis la cerámica del interior es diferente ¡para abaratar!

After the mattress we proceeded with the base. Here´s a close up. When building it, I decided to put tile inside as well because it makes the cleaning easier, although I chose a cheaper tile than the outside for budget reasons.

El interior tiene una pequeña inclinación para que cuando llueva el agua no se acumule y drene por las salidas que veis en la foto de abajo.

The inside of the base is slightly tilted for water drainage when the rain comes. 

Bueno pues esto es todo. ¡Ahora a a comer!
And that was it for the day! Now time for lunch!

Mesillas y Escritorios

Me gusta mucho la idea de tener un pequeño escritorio en la habitación. Muchas veces es imposible por falta de espacio, pero hoy os enseño la posibilidad de sustituir una mesilla por una consola que haga las veces de escritorio, mesilla de noche o tocador.
De entrada pensaréis que una mesilla alta queda rara, ¡pero la verdad es que no! La luz de la lámpara a esa altura es mucho más cómoda para leer, y estéticamente me encanta.
A ver qué os parece a vosotros....

I really like the idea of having small desks in bedrooms, and sometimes they are hard to fit due to the lack of space. But I´d like to share with you the possibility of changing the bedside table for a console table incorporating many uses in one, the desk  the night table and even a boudoir. 
At first you might think it´d be too high for a night table, but the truth is it wouldn´t. In fact having the source of light higher than usual provides a much better light for reading in bed, and it looks faboulous!.
