Los niños van creciendo y hay que ir adaptando los espacios a las necesidades de ocio que van teniendo a cada edad. El cuarto de juegos es mejor hacerlo versátil y no comprometerlo a una única etapa del crecimiento, buscando opciones que vayan creciendo con los niños. Para ello, es preferible mantener el mobiliario y la estructura neutros y jugar con los elementos decorativos que es lo que irá cambiando.
Children grow fast so we need to adapt spaces to their needs thoughout different ages. A play room should be very versatile, and we should not compromise its decoration to a single growing period. We should try to keep it in a neutral palette and only change accesories from time to time.

Hoy os muestro la transformación que hemos hecho en el cuarto de juegos de una familia con tres hijos. En un principio destinaron este cuarto diáfano a una zona donde todos los juguetes tuvieran cabida. Ahora dos de los niños son más mayores y se juntan con amigos a charlar, jugar a la wii y ver películas pero todavía queda uno que tira todos los juguetes.
Today I´m showing the drastic change done in a play room of a family of three children. At first this was a chaotic space where all the toys were around. Now, two of the boys are oder and like to sit around with their friends to watch movies and play wii, but there´s still a toddler around.

Se ha optado por separar todo el espacio en dos zonas, la de audiovisuales y la de juego. Come veis los tonos son neutros y no se encasillan en ninguna edad, pero hay algunos elementos que nos indican que todavía hay niños pequeños.....
We decided to divide the whole space in two areas, one for the TV and the other for playing with toys. As you see, the neutral pallete doens´t make reference to any specific age although some of the elements prove there are still younger children around..

Lámpara de mesilla

Hoy quiero mostraros una alternativa a la lámpara de sobremesa clásica que colocamos en las mesillas de noche. Nos proporcionará la misma luz indirecta que hará la habitación acogedora, a la altura necesaria para que sea cómodo leer pero liberando todo el espacio de las mesillas y proporcionando a la habitación un aire diferente.
A mi no me gusta nada colocar luz de techo en las habitaciones, prefiero conmutar las luces de los lados de la cama con los interruptores de la entrada y encender sólo las de ambiente.

Today I´d like to show you an alternative to the classic table lamp we have on the night stand. We will achive the same indirect light which´ll make our room cozier and it´ll be placed at the perfect height to read in bed comfortably and best of all, it´ll liberate all the space of the side table providing a very different look to the whole space. 
I personally don´t like lighting on the ceiling in bedrooms so I usually commute the switches at the entrance of the room to the indirect lighting.

Un vestidor de haya

Acudí a la llamada de unos clientes que querían destinar una de sus habitaciones sin un uso definido a un vestidor. Tenían ya algunos muebles que querían aprovechar por ahora, así que ideamos un conjunto que fuera armónico incluyendo lo nuevo y lo que ya tenían pero que a su vez pareciera hecho todo a medida.

Attending my clients´ request for a dresser, we came up with this simple desing that blended the few pieces of furniture they wanted to keep with the new pieces we did for them. The main idea was to have a custom made ensemble where the old pieces went unnoticed and became part of the whole.

Y así quedó con los añadidos. Como veréis para que pareciera que todo era una idea preconcebida y que hubiera un nexo de unión entre lo nuevo y lo que ya había, se unió toda la estructura por la parte alta y baja igualando las alturas y uniendo los módulos con una pieza continua. Además se paneló la pared que quedaba vista bajo la ventana con una pieza entera y con una balda suspendida que hacía que todo el conjunto funcionase armónicamente.

And this is the end result. As you can see, we unified the whole unit with long pieces that go over the top and  a continuous baseboard on the bottom.which hods everything together and make it look custom made. Also we pannelled the wall beneath the window as a continuation of the new closet to the existing one giving a very harmonious and balanced look to the space. 

Todas las piezas se hicieron con DM rechapado en madera natural, en este caso haya vaporizada, se lacaron las las piezas individualmente con un acabado satinado y se montó todo en la vivienda.
La elección del DM rechapado en madera se hizo para no encarecer los precios pero sí tener la textura, el acabado y la forma natural de envejecer que tiene la madera natural.

Each piece was built with DMF boards panelled with natural wood for reducing costs although keeping the apearance, texture, look and feel of the natural wood

Lo que a priori nos puede parecer una locura y fuera de sitio más tarde puede terminar siendo todo un acierto. Abramos nuestra mente a nuevas opciones y no encasillemos los muebles destinándolos a un único sitio en casa porque, ¿a que no se te hubiera ocurrido poner un carrito bar, una alacena, una consola antigua
dentro del baño?, ¿y una araña o una butaca tapizada o un espejo antiguo en la cocina?
¡No se tires nada y busca un sitio nuevo para esos muebles! Aquí dejo algunos ejemplos para que sirvan de inspiración.

What at first might feel out of place, later ends up as wise choice. We must open our minds and not categorize furniture thinking each piece is only suitable for the room meant for in the first place. Has it ever occured to you to have a bar cart, a kitchen cupboard or a console in your bathroom? ¿How about having  a crystal pendant lamp, an upholstered chair or an old mirror in the kitchen?
Do not throw anything away!!! Try different furniture in different places! I´ll leave you with some great examples for inspiration....

Aprovechar la altura

Hoy, algo de inspiración para todos aquellos que tengan unos techos más altos de lo normal y quieran aprovechar la altura para ganar unos metros. 

Estos lofts se ven normalmente en galpones o almacenes de tipo industrial, pero hoy os enseño la versión doméstica y decorada. 

Se puede hacer una estructura de madera o metálica para construirlos. Una vez levantada esta estructura, lo más económico es colocar planchas de DM lacado por la parte de abajo (que es la que se ve desde la planta baja), y por encima colocar un parquet o moqueta. Con esta opción se verá la estructura, en caso de que no quisiérais verla habría que forrarla con placas de yeso.

Será necesario colocar barandillas, que podrían ser de cristal o levantar un pequeño tabique para que no se vea el interior del nuevo cubículo. Hay que tener en cuenta que para que sea un espacio cómodo y de fácil acceso tiene que tener una buena escalera para que subir y bajar no sea una tortura y no me refiero a lo que veis en la siguiente foto....

Today, great inspiration for all of you who are lucky to have very high ceilings and wish to gain a few more inches at home.

We often see these kind of lofts in garages and barns, but in these photos you may find the domestic and decorated version.

To build these lofts we need to build the structure in the first place, which could as well be made of wood or steel. Once we have this, the lowest budget option will be to do the flooring with DMF boards painted on the side facing down (seen from the bottom floor) and coated with laminate flooring or carpet. A railing will be necessary and a nice option would be to have it done in glass, but if you want more privacy, then go for a wall. 

Bear in mind that in order for this space to be comfortable to access to, it will need to have a good staircase, and I don´t mean one just like the one in the next picture....

A propósito de alturas, os enseño otro ejemplo de aprovechamiento de metros. Este espacio es lo que le hicimos a un cliente en el tramo de su escalera. En la foto no se aprecia muy bien lo que se ha ganado al vacío, pero lo intentaré explicar porque no tengo fotos del antes:
El medio tabique en forma de L que está ahora no existía, sólo había un medio tabique justo donde terminaba de subir la escalera (como una barandilla), osea que ese espacio que está ocupado por la silla y el escritorio era el hueco del primer tramo de escalera. Como había suficiente altura, ideamos un forjado para albergar este pequeño rincón de trabajo que anteriormente estaba en una habitación que ahora es la de invitados.  Sobre el murete del fondo se colocó un cristal para no quitar la luz de la claraboya que está en el techo, ¡y para evitar que cayeran cosas del escritorio al vacío! En la foto no se aprecia muy bien, pero la parte de debajo del escritorio esta algo inclinada para salvar la altura de los primeros peldaños de abajo.

Speaking of gaining square meters, I show you a small space we created for a client in their staircase hollow (sorry we don´t have the before pictures).
The small L shape wall wasn´t there before, instead there was an empty space and the wall was way back, right where the last step ended (as a railing), therefore all the space that is now hosting the desk and the chair wasn´t there and from the banister you could see people comming up. 
Since we had enough height, we suggested to the client the construction os this office space which was located inside a bedroom which the family desperately needed for guests.
