Cama Balinesa, toca limpiarla

Hace ya bastante tiempo que publiqué aquí la historia de mi cama balinesa. Os diré que es la entrada que más visitas tiene de mi blog con muchísima diferencia de las demás. Recibo correos preguntándome detalles constructivos, medidas y materiales utilizados para su construcción. Algún día publicaré las fotos de otras camas balinesas inspiradas en esta misma, de personas que a través del blog me han pedido asesoramiento.

I still get mails asking for more information about contruction details, materials used, measurements, etc. Maybe some day I´ll show all the Bali Beds made using this one as inspiration source, from people I  helped out through this blog.


En fin, que después del interés que parece que suscita, he aprovechado un zafarrancho en familia para hacer su limpieza anual y que veáis los detalles de la base y confirméis que el cuero náutico y las cortinas de loneta acrílica dan un resultado estupendo usadas a la intemperie.

So, given the interest shown, I´ll post about it again. This time taking advantage of a family gathering to pursue the annual bali bed cleaning! This time you can see the base and how the nautical leatherette and the acrylic fabric for the drapes are perfect for outdoor use. 

No pudimos elegir mejor día que el más caluroso del año para los menesteres de limpieza, se puede ver la capa de calima....
Retiramos el colchón de la base para limpiarlo, sobretodo los laterales y la parte de abajo que quedan embutidos dentro de la estructura y se llenan de suciedad (había hasta una lagartija aplastadilla....), pero con un manguerazo y trapo húmedo sale perfectamente.

We couldn´t have chosen a better day than the warmest day of the year to do this! You can see the dusty cloud in the pictures.
We removed the mattress to wash it throughly. The sides and the bottom are dirtier than the rest because are inserted in the base, but with a hose and a damp cloth the mattress is back in shape!

Luego limpiamos bien la estructura. Aquí podéis apreciar el interior de la estructura. Se puede dejar sin alicatar pero para la limpieza es más fácil que la superficie sea lisa. Como veis la cerámica del interior es diferente ¡para abaratar!

After the mattress we proceeded with the base. Here´s a close up. When building it, I decided to put tile inside as well because it makes the cleaning easier, although I chose a cheaper tile than the outside for budget reasons.

El interior tiene una pequeña inclinación para que cuando llueva el agua no se acumule y drene por las salidas que veis en la foto de abajo.

The inside of the base is slightly tilted for water drainage when the rain comes. 

Bueno pues esto es todo. ¡Ahora a a comer!
And that was it for the day! Now time for lunch!

Mesillas y Escritorios

Me gusta mucho la idea de tener un pequeño escritorio en la habitación. Muchas veces es imposible por falta de espacio, pero hoy os enseño la posibilidad de sustituir una mesilla por una consola que haga las veces de escritorio, mesilla de noche o tocador.
De entrada pensaréis que una mesilla alta queda rara, ¡pero la verdad es que no! La luz de la lámpara a esa altura es mucho más cómoda para leer, y estéticamente me encanta.
A ver qué os parece a vosotros....

I really like the idea of having small desks in bedrooms, and sometimes they are hard to fit due to the lack of space. But I´d like to share with you the possibility of changing the bedside table for a console table incorporating many uses in one, the desk  the night table and even a boudoir. 
At first you might think it´d be too high for a night table, but the truth is it wouldn´t. In fact having the source of light higher than usual provides a much better light for reading in bed, and it looks faboulous!.

No te conformes con una

En algunas distribuciones de muebles de salón, ya sea porque los sillones son de distinto tamaño, o porque el espacio es grande y podemos abarcar más separando los sillones entre sí, o porque una parte del sillón tiene chaise longue, o porque hay varios ambientes, la mesa de centro se queda colgando, cerca de uno pero lejos del otro. Así que lo mejor, en estos casos es no limitarse a una única mesa de centro. ¡Prueba con varias!
Es perfecto porque se adaptan a espacios irregulares o demasiado grandes. Las puedes mover por separado según lo que necesites y además es muy estético. Varias mesas pueden completar el espacio.

Sometimes when trying to distribute all the furniture in a living room, we find that the coffee table is somewhere in the middle and doesn´t fit well. Maybe because the sofas are different sizes, or because they have a chaise longue, or because the space is big enough so you want to leave more room in between couches.
 In these cases, we could try with more than just one coffee table! It´s a great option, you can move them separately  and adpat them to iregular or big spaces as you need,  and they totally complete the space.

Qué poner sobre la cama...

Hace algún tiempo, Mamen, autora del blog El Desván de Mamen, me pedía sugerencias decorativas para la pared donde va ubicada la cama, así que hoy le dedico esta entrada que espero le sirva de inspiración a ella y a todos vosotros fieles lectores.
He de deciros que yo tenía muy claro cómo querría decorar el cabezal de una cama, pero cuanto más  investigas más opciones descubres. Así que intentaré resumir los conceptos que creo debéis tener en cuenta, para que luego cada uno, según sus gustos, elija la opción adecuada.
Para mi, lo más importante es la PROPORCIÓN. Ya de entrada os digo que para eso hay que tener en cuenta el tamaño de la pared y si la cama tiene o no cabecero, y en caso de que lo tenga su altura es vital para el resto de la decoración.

Un cabecero muy alto ya es suficiente protagonista en esa pared, por lo que yo no añadiría nada más, aunque sí le dedicaría atención a las mesillas (tamaño de lámparas, y cuadros).

Mamen, from El Desván de Mamen, recently asked me to post about decorating over the headboard, and even though I thought I had a perfect idea of how I´d approach that, the more I research, the more options I find. I will try to sum up the main aspects to consider on this task, leaving you different alternatives to choose from. 
To me, what´s most important to consider is PROPORTION, so the size of the wall and whether the bed has a headboard or not, and the size of the headboard itself,  is essential. 

En esta foto, veis como el cabecero es alto, y sólo se decora la zona de mesilla, con un cuadro que no sobrepasa la altura de cabecero. En este caso, si se pusiera algo sobre el cabecero la altura quedaría desproporcionada.
A large headboard is enough for decorating the wall, so I wouldn´t add anything else over it, although I would arrange a wall decoration for the side tables (picture above)

Yo siempre pienso que lo mejor para poner sobre un cabecero es cualquier cosa alargada y estrecha,
I really like anything long and narrow over the bed, 

pero aquí os dejo algunos ejemplos de cuadros pequeños que en su conjunto forman ese rectángulo estrecho que da proporción a la pared.
In these examples the art arrangement all together creates the long and narrow rectangle and gives the right proportion to the wall.

Si decidimos colocar algo sobre el cabecero, yo sugeriría nivelar las alturas con objetos colocados a ambos lados de la mesilla, como en los ejemplos de las siguientes fotos.
Si os imagináis estas mismas fotos sin los cuadros laterales quedaría dibujado un triángulo con un pico muy alto y con aire triste e inacabado.
If we go for a decoration over the headboard, I´d suggest you match the height of the centerpiece with what is placed over the side tables. If you imagine the photos below without the art work over the tables, you´ll see a triangle shape with a high peak in the middle, having a dull and empty space as a result.

En estas dos siguientes fotos, el tapiz, cuadro o tela decorativa, hace las veces de cabecero y como es suficientemente grande y decorado, no hace falta poner nada más, pero verás que las lámparas son también altas y bastante grandes para guardar la proporción que comentaba
In the following photos, the fabric used as headboard is large enough, and there´s no need for further decoration. You can see, that the lamps are also large and long to keep the right proportion.

Este otro ejemplo, aunque desproporcionado el cuadro, al abarcar cama y mesillas completa todo el conjunto haciéndolo muy atractivo.
This other example, although the picture itself is out of proportion, but groups the bed and the side tables, the result as a whole is aesthetic and full.

También podríamos prescindir de cabecero y de objetos decorativos y utilizar un papel o material de revestimiento diferente al resto de las paredes que decore por sí solo.
We could also avoid the headboard or the art work and use an appealing wall paper or lining  for the whole wall.

Finalmente, creo que como en casi todo, las reglas sólo valen si al ojo le gusta.
But in the end, rules are to be followed only if appealing to the eye.
